Welcome Parents and Students

Tuition $10 per 45 minute to 1 hr semi private lesson
I teach out of the piano adventure books, I have students memorize notes by practicing on an ipod and taking note tests that I made myself, I teach students how to ready music, learn scales and chords, music theory and how to play popular music using chords. Because my lessons are 45 minutes to 1 hour long students will have the opportunity to practice before they leave lessons. I teach out of my home near Northside School in Fallon NV. Payment is due at the beginning of the month or new session.

Fall Session
Winter Spring Session
Summer Session

I am holding a spot for your child each week and therefore will need to charge for the lesson even if your child does not come. However I do make up lessons. I am available by appointment most Saturdays and evenings.

I have noticed that weekly lessons for piano students (especially newer ones) have the best results. Skipping lessons may seem cheaper but when I don't see a student regularly I usually end up teaching a review lesson or teaching the same songs that I did in the previous lesson because they have forgotten and have not practiced. Therefore it isn't cheaper to skip lessons because your students most likely will not be progressing well.

I will have a small break the first week of June. I am not sure at this time when the charter school gets out for the summer but I thought it would be less confusing if I stop Spring Session the last day of May. I had the idea of doing summer piano lesson camps (kind of like swimming lessons where they came every day for a week or two for about 90 minutes.) That way they could learn a lot in a short amount of time and have part of the summer as a break. I would like to do a camp the beginning of the summer and one at the end of the summer as a refresher. Let me know what you think of this idea. I would still do traditional piano lesson in the summer if you were not interested in doing the camps.

Hopefully I have accounted for everything. I am not perfect but I learn from my mistakes. Thanks so much everyone.

Piano Recital was Wonderful!

I appreciate all of the hard work your children put in for the recital. Some of them really surprised, in a good way. I have developed a relationship with all of them and it brings me such joy to see them improve.

If anyone has any photos or video's they would like to share on my blog please email them to me. My Iphone battery died very early on that night so I don't have very many.

Christmas Recital is Almost here!!!

I am getting excited!! It is almost time for the Christmas recital on December 19th Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Churchill County High School Auditorium.  Most of my students are ready to go. A few of them need to practice really hard this last week. We are having an rehearsal on Tuesday the 17th at my house. Come between 3:30 and 5:00 pm when you can. It shouldn't take too long. I would like each student to play there song for the other students and then listen to at least 2 other songs before they leave.

Wear your best cloths for the recital and bring a refreshment if you can. After the recital we will be having a Christmas break from piano lessons for most of you until school starts in January. Have a Merry Christmas, I am so proud of everyone.

Piano Recital

The piano recital will be December 19th at 6:00 pm at the Churchill County High School Auditorium. Please bring a light refreshment to share. I would like everyone to stay and watch all the performances unless you have prior commitments. Also because it is a large room I want everyone to sit front and center so we are not scattered all over the auditorium.

Also please read the post about December lessons in red below this post.

For Public school kids. The openings for after school go to 4:15 so your child could ride the bus to Northside school and walk to my house and get here by 3:25 and still have a 45 minute piano lesson.

Changing my business name to Piano School

I decided to change my business name to piano school instead of Michelle's Piano Lessons. So I may be changing my blog some but don't be alarmed if you think you are the wrong site.

Parent Information

I want to thank everyone for their hard work this last winter and summer session.  The students have really come a long way in sight reading music. It required hard work and practice, and not always fun. I really appreciate all the note practice.

I am really excited about the summer. We are starting 45 minute lessons and I hope putting on a little concert with some chord songs. I did get another piano so we will more practicing opportunities at piano lessons. I am asking that the students enter through my side gate and the back door of my house if it is good weather. This will keep the peace better for my children and their nanny. I still have summer openings so let me know if you don't already have a time. Check out my blog for available times. I will start advertising for openings to the public soon. http://michellespianolessons.blogspot.com

If your child is not coming for  summer lessons  : ( please make sure they learn 1 new song per week. They are more than welcome to email me questions about a song. Have them practice their notes on an ipod or check out this great website. www.musictheory.net/exercises

If your child goes to public school I will start their summer lesson time starting the week of June 10th. If you child is homeschooled or goes to Oasis Academy Charter school they can start their summer lessons next week. I will not be teaching Memorial Day.

New invoicing will be coming in June. I will have your monthly totals or summer amounts available soon. Let me know of summer vacations that you have planned and i will not charge you for those weeks that you will be gone. I do charge for last minute cancellations however, but I will also try to do a make up lesson if you call or text me.

Summer Piano Lesson schedule

Summer is closely upon us.  I would like to create a summer schedule soon. I am going start teaching lessons with 2 and 3 students in my piano studio at a time. I will have students start their lessons 15 minutes apart from each other and their total lesson time will be 45 minutes long. This will give students the opportunity to practice their new songs or their previous week songs at piano lessons. I have been trying it out some and the students have more confidence about their new songs before they leave. They also have more time to practice their notes and take their note tests. I have a keyboard with headphone right now they can practice on but I hope to get another electric piano or small real piano.

I am also hoping to put together a summer concert. We would choose popular music and have the students create music with chords and scales. We will have some singers to help us out with the melody. I have been creating this in my head for about a year now, but I am still nervous as how it will turn out. It will give the students an opportunity to play in a band. Hoping the concert will be in July sometime.

Email or Text me 775-217-2331 with the spots you want? michelleoldfield@gmail.com or comment on this post. I may need to adjust times once everyone has chosen a time. I would like my teaching times to be together rather than all spread out.
